As a child, Bernardine would follow her mother’s decorator around the house as she transformed an ordinary room into a magical place by moving a piece of furniture or adding a new lamp (she managed to turn the smallest entryway in the neighborhood into the most charming space to hang one's hat…). Bernardine wanted to create that same joy for others.

Graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in English and a concentration in Interior Design Studies, Bernardine took her next steps by following the advice of a beloved professor, who told her that even a good decorator needs to learn design principles. She honed her design and interpersonal skills through a successful career in NYC working at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for the design department, later managing a prestigious trade showroom alongside some of the most famous design talents of our time. Once her first child was born, she took time off and moved to the suburbs with her husband. Years later, when her children were in school, she began to receive requests for her design services…

In 2007, Bernardine founded Bernardine Hare Design and started a full service interior design company (including all things home and garden). Clients are consistently excited by her ability to understand them as well as elevate their taste and introduce new ideas with confidence. Like most designers, Bernardine strives to provide excellent service, and over the years she has established a team of professional design + business experts who work together to produce beautiful and well-loved spaces. She describes her style as Classic design, with tradition and modern elements combined.
